That got out of hand quickly

The 12pm Bolt bus hadn’t shown. I was concerned they canceled it and combined it with my bus. That would explain the odd email i got from Bolt announcing the 12:30 bus i was scheduled to take was now slated to leave at… 12:30. I hoped not, but knew better.

I’ve been in NY visiting and participating in Scotch-A-Thon with BaffledInBrooklyn, Section9, and amillionelephants. Needless to say, I’ve hit my half life, and am not at full strength.

If the bus is combined, it will be crowded as shit. Worse, there would be too many people for the bus. People would be on standby for the next bus.

I was hot, tired. This added logistical hurdle didn’t give me the happy pants.

The bus came. An employee confirmed the bus was combined with the noon and twelve thirty. Combined, it was oversold. They weren’t checking for group letter,.only that you had a ticket. It was first come, first get the fuck out of town.

It was almost Thunderdome on 33rd and 7th.

There was a minor mad dash. We swarmed the still unloading bus.Since i had A group, i formed a hasty alliance with two other people in A group and we fought to put our gear under the bus and rush the door. An errant drunk ambled through the crowd, shaking hands and barking warm 120 proof requests for change. I used the distraction to blow past a couple tourists and get to the door.

One of my allies found herself on the wrong side of a slow moving elderly tourist, blocked off and in danger of being pushed out by the swarm. My other ally reached across a garbage pile to pull the girl over to us while i held back the crowd by making exaggerated stretching motions and flailing my limbs.

We all made it on. Half of B group did. Most people in C group didn’t stand a chance.

The bus pulled away, and i feel like that should have been easier.

Good luck everyone else.
