I’m at a training session today for my certification. It should be, well, it should be a day of forgettable material, but I’m hoping to network a bit, snipe for jobs or job ideas, and generally have a day out of the office.

I have my resume in fighting shape, and I’ve started hunting in earnest. This will not be fun. Actually, it very well could be, if I choose not to put so much pressure on this search.

Maybe I’ll wish my way to a new gig. We’ll see.

If Chris ‘Tweaker’ Vrenna came back to the line up too, my head would asplode. I saw NIN in 2000 during the Fragility 2.0 Tour when a little known A Perfect Circle opened for them, and Marilyn Manson made a surprise appearance to sing Starfuckers, Inc and Beautiful People. I also dragged Mrs. MMLTD to see their ‘farewell’ tour with Jane’s Addiction. In short, this is awesome.

sharepoint is for people who dont understand how to implement and maintain naming conventions and driver/password maintained security access. one naming and access nazi negate the need for unwieldy third party crap. in my not very humble opinion.

I completely agree, that’s how it’s most frequently used. In most cases, people get to the part where you can create folder and upload files, then stop. They treat it like the bastard offspring of a network drive.

However, at one point, I had a savvy guy on my IT team who showed me a SharePoint site he set up that allowed workflow processing, auto-triggered notifications, and data storage like an access database versus just being a terrible land of forgotten files with a shotgun blast like organization. I want THAT. I negotiated a week of his time to teach everything and help me set up my site.

Then that IT guy got transferred to another project and department, and he took his fancy book learnin’ with him. So now my SharePoint site is a wasteland, and I want to do what he did. Hence the Lynda.com question.

I need / want to learn how to use SharePoint, and a few other programs, and I’m considering using Lynda.com. But it costs money, and the monthly vig is enough to slow me down and reconsider. Has anyone used it before? Are the classes worth the monthly price of admission?
